Cardiologists warn of heart failure epidemic in Italy

Medical experts from the National Association of Hospital Cardiologists (ANMCO) are warning of a heart failure epidemic in Italy. Approximately 800,000 people are currently affected, resulting in more than 130,000 hospitalizations annually.

For individuals over the age of 65, heart failure has become the most common cause of hospital admission in the country. Experts emphasize that many of these hospitalizations could be avoided through improved therapeutic management and more consistent care at the local level.

Data from the Bring-Up 3 Scompenso registry study indicates that while 65 percent of patients are starting modern quadruple therapy early, approximately one-fifth of patients are readmitted to the hospital within a year of discharge. To address these challenges, ANMCO is organizing a national convention in Milan to focus on clinical innovations and strategies to optimize care and reduce the economic and prognostic impact of the syndrome.
