The National Association of Hospital Cardiologists (ANMCO) has warned of a heart failure epidemic, noting that approximately 800,000 people are affected and causing over 130,000 annual hospitalizations. For citizens over 65, heart failure has become the primary cause of hospital admission, with experts suggesting that improved local care and therapeutic management could prevent many of these cases.

In parallel, data from the Italian Society of Interventional Cardiology shows that Italy performed over 520,000 minimally invasive cardiac procedures in 2025, including coronary angiographies and angioplasties. While clinical interventions are widespread, regional issues persist; for example, the Naples region reports over 3,000 annual hospitalizations for heart diseases.
