Caretta caretta rescued in Maccarese and ten hatchlings emerge in Cecina, Italy

On 30 July, a Caretta caretta turtle was found entangled in a fishing line with a hook in its mouth on the beach of Maccarese, near the La Capannina bathing establishment. The local Coast Guard, led by Alfonso Formisano, responded quickly and, together with the regional conservation group TartaLazio, freed the animal and transferred it to veterinary care.

The following day, a previously unnoticed nest on the Tomboli Meridionali beach in Cecina released about ten tiny Caretta caretta hatchlings. Volunteers from the conservation groups TartAmare and Legambiente, assisted by municipal officials including Deputy Mayor Alessandro Bechini, secured the area with fencing and urged the public to keep a safe distance to protect the emerging turtles.
