Cargill and Afirme consortium advances AHMSA sale process

A judge overseeing the bankruptcy proceedings of Altos Hornos de México (AHMSA) is working to implement a sale alternative involving a consortium of Cargill and Afirme. This move follows the failure of a previous bidder, José Arturo Domínguez Arteaga of CIESA, to provide the necessary guarantees.

Workers at the Monclova, Coahuila steel plant have expressed growing urgency due to the economic hardship caused by the company's paralysis. While union leaders noted that the entry of potential representatives from Grupo Afirme into the facilities was viewed positively as a step toward inspecting equipment and accelerating negotiations, they have also warned against the unauthorized removal of machinery and assets.

The union is seeking to ensure that the sale covers all outstanding labor obligations and has requested federal support for final liquidations. A 90-day period has been established to advance the resolution, with reports due every 15 days as part of the legal process.
