CARICOM mission visits Haiti to monitor electoral process

A delegation of eminent personalities from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is conducting a week-long mission in Haiti to monitor the political situation and the feasibility of upcoming elections. The delegation, which includes former Prime Ministers Kenny Anthony, Orette Bruce Golding, and Perry Christie, met with Haitian Foreign Minister Raina Forbin to discuss security issues and the electoral process. The delegation also visited the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) to review progress on the electoral calendar and voter registration.

However, Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé has expressed criticism regarding CARICOM’s involvement. He argued that the organization’s actions risk fueling political uncertainty by maintaining provisional political arrangements rather than fostering institutional stability. The Prime Minister emphasized the need for a revised electoral decree that complies with the Constitution and called for dialogue between the government, the CEP, and political actors to ensure a credible election process and improved security conditions.
