CARICOM supports India’s bid for UN Security Council seat

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has announced its support for India’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2028-29 term. The decision was communicated during the India-CARICOM Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.

In addition to political support, both parties agreed to deepen economic and strategic cooperation. Key areas of focus include trade and investment, agriculture and food security, digital governance, climate resilience, and energy. The Ministry of External Affairs noted that the meeting serves as a follow-up to the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit held in Guyana in November 2024.
