Caring for Rare conference opens in Belgrade to address rare diseases

The Caring for Rare regional conference, focused on rare diseases, has opened in Belgrade. During the opening ceremony, Milica Đurđević Stamenkovski, the Minister for Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, emphasized the necessity for medical professionals to be better informed about the challenges posed by rare diseases to ensure timely and accurate interventions.

Stamenkovski shared a personal anecdote regarding a patient whose condition was mismanaged due to a lack of specialized medical knowledge, highlighting the long-term impact of delayed or incorrect diagnoses. She noted that while efforts to improve awareness are ongoing in Serbia and globally, active and productive collaboration between state institutions and patient associations is essential to improve patient outcomes.
