Carinthia approves 2027 budget with increased savings targets

The Carinthian state government has approved its 2027 budget draft and a financial framework extending to 2030. The plan aims for significant savings, targeting 1.3 billion euros in reductions over the legislative period, which exceeds the original goal by 300 million euros.

For the 2027 fiscal year, Carinthia projects revenues of 3.725 billion euros against expenditures of 4.108 billion euros, resulting in a net deficit of 383.42 million euros. Major spending areas include health, social affairs, and equality (over 1 billion euros), education (nearly 1 billion euros), and nursing (approximately 545 million euros).

To achieve these savings, the government plans to reduce administrative staff by 300 positions by 2031. Governor Daniel Fellner stated that the administration will not use a “lawnmower” approach to cuts, but will instead target specific areas where spending can be reduced without compromising necessary investments or essential support.
