Carlos Correa advances rehabilitation for potential Astros return
Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa is advancing his rehabilitation following surgery on May 11 to repair his left ankle's peroneus brevis tendon. After a four-month medical checkup, Correa has been cleared to intensify his training and will travel to the team's spring training facility in West Palm Beach, Florida, later this week.
Correa has already resumed hitting off machines and fielding ground balls at third base, reporting that he is currently running at 95 percent capacity. The upcoming phase in Florida will serve as a “real test,” involving live pitching and a progression in baserunning.
Astros manager Joe Espada indicated that if Correa returns this season, he will likely occupy the starting third base position. Depending on his progress, Correa may require a minor-league rehab assignment before potentially returning to the Major Leagues during the final weeks of the regular season or for a playoff series.
