Carlos José Troche Rodríguez faces homicide charges after fatal Dominican Republic accident

Carlos José Troche Rodríguez, known as ‘Nino Dólar’, is facing legal proceedings following a fatal traffic accident on Abraham Lincoln Avenue in Santo Domingo on August 15. The incident involved a Chevrolet Tahoe colliding with a motorcycle carrying three people. The collision resulted in the deaths of Wilmer Ernesto Rodríguez Silverio and his 21-year-old daughter, Wilkaren Massiel Rodríguez Batista. A third passenger, Arianna Michelle Ciprián, was seriously injured but is reported to be out of danger following surgery.

The Public Ministry has charged Troche Rodríguez with aggravated homicide, alleging he ran a red light and, after the initial impact, continued driving, running over and dragging the victims. Prosecutors are seeking preventive detention, arguing the act constitutes eventual intent rather than a simple accident. Additionally, reports indicate the defendant was not carrying a driver's license at the time of the incident.

In a recent development, Judge Rigoberto Sena of the Permanent Attention Court declined to hear the request for coercive measures, declaring the court incompetent to handle the case. The judge referred the file to a specialized traffic court, a decision that has sparked significant indignation among the victims' families, who have protested the ruling and demanded justice, characterizing the incident as a criminal act rather than a routine traffic accident.
