Lisbon Mayor Carlos Moedas warns of security concerns and police shortages

Carlos Moedas, the Mayor of Lisbon and Vice-President of the PSD, has expressed growing alarm regarding the security situation in the capital. While maintaining that Lisbon remains a safe city, Moedas noted a significant decline in stability compared to two years ago.

Moedas highlighted a critical shortage of law enforcement, stating that while the city's population has grown by 100,000 since 2010, the police force has decreased by 2,000 officers. He emphasized that the city requires approximately 2,000 additional police officers to address current realities.

Despite the urgency, the Mayor clarified that he is not seeking a confrontation with the central Government or specific ministers, asserting that the goal is a collective effort to improve urban safety rather than a political war.
