Carlos Vila Nova inaugurated as President of São Tomé and Príncipe

Carlos Vila Nova has been inaugurated for a second term as President of São Tomé and Príncipe following his reelection in July. In his inaugural address, Vila Nova called for national unity, political stability, and a culture of dialogue, emphasizing that political differences should not be transformed into national enmities.

The ceremony drew several international leaders, highlighting the archipelago's diplomatic importance. Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro attended to reaffirm bilateral ties and announced preparations for a summit to deepen cooperation in sectors such as security, energy, health, and education. Additionally, Democratic Republic of the Congo President Félix Tshisekedi and Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema were present, signaling strengthened regional cooperation and solidarity among African nations.

Montenegro also noted the importance of the relationship as Portugal prepares to serve as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, seeking to leverage shared values within the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP).
