Carlos Vila Nova sworn in for second term as President of São Tomé and Príncipe
Carlos Vila Nova has been officially sworn in for a second five-year term as the President of São Tomé and Príncipe. The inauguration ceremony took place at the National Assembly headquarters.
Following his reelection with 55.88% of the vote in the first round of the July 19 election, the ceremony was attended by various heads of state and government. Representing King Mohammed VI of Morocco, Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch attended the event. Other notable attendees included Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema and Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi.
The event marks a step in the archipelago's democratic transition as the nation prepares for upcoming legislative elections. The presence of regional leaders underscores ongoing diplomatic ties between São Tomé and Príncipe and its neighbors, including Gabon and Morocco.
