Carlos Vives calls for regional unity amid South American earthquake crisis
In Villanueva, La Guajira, a new community radio station, Villanueva Mía 102.8 FM, has begun testing its signal. The station was granted a broadcasting concession by the Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications to the association ‘Los Afro del Cerro Pintao’, a group representing displaced Afro-descendant populations in the department. The project is led by legal representative María Inés Socarrás, with Javier Socarrás Amaya serving as manager.
Separately, Colombian singer Carlos Vives has issued a call for regional solidarity following a series of devastating earthquakes that have impacted Venezuela, Colombia, and Peru. Vives urged nations to prioritize mutual aid and reconstruction over nationalism, stating, “Que nunca más seamos tierras del olvido” (May we never again be lands of oblivion), emphasizing the brotherhood between the affected South American nations.
