Carnival Freedom receives funnel modification to access more ports

Carnival Cruise Line has completed a 35-day dry dock for the Carnival Freedom at Chantier Naval de Marseille in France, featuring significant structural and interior upgrades. A key modification involves a new, shorter version of the company’s signature whale-tail funnel, designed to allow the ship to access additional ports that were previously restricted by height limitations.

In addition to the funnel modification, the ship underwent several interior renovations, including a redesigned casino with over 100 new gaming machines, updated retail spaces, and a refreshed video arcade. The vessel also received accessibility improvements and a new “From Sea to Shining Sea” crest on its bow.

The Carnival Freedom is scheduled to return to service with a Mediterranean cruise departing from Barcelona, Spain. Following this, it will embark on a transatlantic voyage before arriving at Port Canaveral, Florida, on October 30. The ship will operate out of Port Canaveral through May 2027, after which it is slated to move to Norfolk, Virginia.
