Carrefour recalls Ethiopia coffee after ochratoxin A exceedance in France

Carrefour has issued a voluntary recall of its "Café ETHIOPIA" whole‑bean coffee sold in 1 kg bags (GTIN 3560071492809, lot FR1L1209126) after laboratory tests found ochratoxin A levels above the EU safety limit. The product was on French shelves from 18 May to 21 July 2026.

Consumers are advised not to consume the coffee, to return the bags to any Carrefour store for a refund or to destroy them. The retailer’s consumer service can be reached free of charge at 0805 908 070. Ochratoxin A is a mycotoxin that may cause DNA damage and has been linked to kidney, immune and neurological toxicity; the EFSA notes that only repeated long‑term exposure poses a health risk.
