Carrera Panamericana 2026 reaches Guanajuato during fifth stage
The 39th modern edition of the Carrera Panamericana has arrived in Guanajuato Capital following the fifth stage of the race. The event, which spans approximately 4,000 kilometers from Chiapas to Zacatecas, saw more than fifty classic cars transit through the city's historic center under the Teatro Juárez.
French competitors Hilarie and Laura Damiron currently lead the classification driving a 1954 Studebaker Comander. They are followed by Javier Marín and Emilio Velázquez in a 1953 Studebaker Champion. The race standings have shifted following the withdrawal of the seven-time champion Ricardo Cordero, known as 'El Malditillo'.
Among the notable participants is a 1990 Volkswagen Beetle, driven by Sebastián Cancino and Esteban Ortiz. The vehicle has been modified with a competition engine, gearbox, brakes, and suspension to compete alongside high-power sports cars. The project aims to provide racing experience for new talent in the rally circuit.
