Andalusia political dispute erupts over Niebla forest fire management

In Andalusia, political tension has risen following the Niebla forest fire, which burned 33,000 hectares across 11 municipalities. The PSOE has demanded a parliamentary commission of inquiry to investigate the management of the emergency and the performance of the Infoca firefighting service. However, the PP and Vox parties have rejected the request for an extraordinary plenary session specifically dedicated to the fire. Instead, the regional government has scheduled a general appearance by Counselor Antonio Sanz for mid-September to address various issues, including the fires, earthquakes in Granada, and narcotics trafficking.

Separately, various Spanish municipalities are implementing major security operations for upcoming local festivals. Ponferrada, Bolaños de Calatrava, and Mislata have all coordinated with local police, the Guardia Civil, and Civil Protection to manage large crowds. Mislata is notably deploying sentinel bracelets to prevent chemical submission during its celebrations.

In Cartagena, local authorities have criticized the Ministry of the Interior for a lack of resources to combat human trafficking, claiming the coast has become a gateway for smuggling boats. Meanwhile, in Catalonia, President Salvador Illa has signaled that the upcoming political term will involve critical decisions regarding housing, education, and regional financing that will shape the next decade.
