Casa di Silvia ALS care residence opens in Savona, Italy

On 3 July 2025, the Casa di Silvia was inaugurated in Savona, a facility created by the Italian ALS Association (AISLA) to provide accessible accommodation for people living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), their families and caregivers. The house offers a retreat near the inclusive Scaletto Senza Scalini beach, enabling guests to rest and receive support during treatment periods.

The project is named after Silvia Codispoti, who was diagnosed with ALS at age 23, became a volunteer for AISLA, and died on 1 May 2025 at 47. Her parents, Pino and Gianna Codispoti, attended the opening and highlighted her wish to help others despite her illness. The Casa di Silvia represents the first national initiative of its kind in Italy, aiming to improve quality of life for those affected by this neurodegenerative disease.
