Casablanca railway project enters operational phase
The massive railway development project in Grand Casablanca has entered its operational phase, one year after its launch by King Mohammed VI. The program involves an investment of 20 billion dirhams and is a key component of Morocco’s 96 billion dirham national rail transformation plan aimed at 2030.
Key infrastructure developments include the construction of 260 kilometers of new tracks, 50 engineering structures, two technical centers, and five maintenance centers. The project also includes the acquisition of 48 new trains for regional and local services, alongside the renovation of five existing stations.
Major construction is currently underway at three strategic sites: Casablanca-Sud, Mohammed V Airport, and the Hassan II Grand Stadium. These projects are expected to be completed within 24 months. The Casablanca-Sud station is designed to be a major transit hub, featuring six platforms and ten tracks to accommodate Al Boraq high-speed trains, long-distance lines, and regional services, while integrating with tramways, buses, and taxis.
