Gorgonzola DOP recalled in Italy due to potential Listeria risk

The Italian Ministry of Health has issued a precautionary recall for two specific brands of Gorgonzola DOP due to the potential presence of Listeria monocytogenes. The affected products are 200-gram packages from lot L126G22, with an expiration date of September 5, 2026.

The two brands involved are Tapporosso (Centrale del Latte di Torino) and Idal (Gorgonzola Dolce). Both products were manufactured by Granarolo S.p.A. at the Casalino plant in the province of Novara.

Consumers who have purchased these specific items are advised not to consume them and to return them to the point of sale for a refund. While the recall is a precautionary measure and no public cases of listeriosis have been reported in connection with these products, authorities warn that Listeria can survive and multiply even at refrigerator temperatures. The bacteria pose a significant risk to vulnerable populations, including the elderly, infants, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems.
