Rio de Janeiro: Criminals use buses as barricades during police operation

Criminals in Rio de Janeiro used approximately 18 buses as barricades to obstruct police operations in the Cascadura, Campinho, and Fubá regions. The tactic was intended to hinder the movement of the Military Police during an operation targeting organized crime groups.

The confrontation resulted in one death following a cardiac arrest and the wounding of another suspect, who was taken to the Carlos Chagas State Hospital. Police reported four other arrests during the action. Authorities seized a pistol, a grenade, a radio communicator, six rifle magazines, and an unspecified amount of drugs.

The barricades significantly disrupted urban mobility, affecting at least 33 bus lines and causing congestion on major routes like Avenida Dom Hélder Câmara and near the Linha Amarela. Additionally, the violence forced the suspension of services at several municipal primary health units to ensure the safety of staff and patients.
