Caserta political group demands hearing on waste site remediation

The Alleanza Verdi e Sinistra (AVS) Caserta has formally requested a hearing with the President of the Province of Caserta regarding the remediation and securing of two former waste treatment sites: ‘Campania Energia’ in Teano and ‘Metalplast’ in Ailano.

Under a regional decree, the Province of Caserta was designated as the sole entity responsible for the characterization, design, removal, and disposal of waste at these sites, supported by 4.2 million euros in regional funds. However, AVS reports that months after the decree, no public schedule has been established and no physical work has commenced.

The political group expressed concerns regarding public health and the environmental integrity of the Lete and Volturno river basins. They also raised questions about the credibility of the process, noting that the same provincial entity that authorized the original Metalplast plant in a protected natural area is now tasked with its cleanup.
