Casino Group rebrands to Plesio to focus on proximity retail

The French retail group Casino, which operates brands such as Monoprix, Franprix, Naturalia, Vival, Spar, and CDiscount, has announced it will rename the parent group to Plesio. The name is derived from the Greek word for “proximity,” reflecting the company’s strategic shift toward local, convenience-based commerce.

CEO Philippe Palazzi stated that the new identity provides a framework to accommodate future brands, particularly in the sectors of takeaway food and services. While the group name is changing, the “Casino” name will be retained as a specific retail brand for more than 500 existing stores.

The rebranding follows the group’s recent sale of its hypermarkets and its transition to the control of billionaire Daniel Kretinsky in 2024. The formal change of the corporate name is subject to shareholder approval at the next general assembly, scheduled for 2027. The new blue logo and identity will be rolled out progressively across communication materials.
