Casino Group rebranding to Plesio

Overview

The French retail group Casino has announced a corporate rebranding to Plesio, a name derived from the Greek word for “proximity.” This change signals a strategic shift toward local, convenience-based commerce and the group’s ‘Renouveau 2030’ plan, which focuses on expanding retail formats, enhancing takeaway food offerings, and supporting franchised merchants.

While the parent company will adopt the Plesio identity, existing commercial brands—including Monoprix, Franprix, CDiscount, Naturalia, Spar, Vival, and the Casino convenience store brand—will retain their current names. This restructuring follows the group’s recent divestment of most hypermarkets and supermarkets, as well as a transition to the control of billionaire Daniel Kretinsky in 2024.

CEO Philippe Palazzi noted that the new identity provides a framework for future brands in the food and service sectors. The formal name change is subject to shareholder approval at a general assembly scheduled for 2027.
