AI integration expands from consumer robotics to industrial operations

Various developments in artificial intelligence are impacting consumer products, industrial operations, and social care. Casio is launching Moflin, an AI-powered plush companion, in Germany for 399 euros. Designed to react to touch, light, and sound, the device is being tested in nursing homes to stimulate social interaction and well-being among elderly residents, though experts note it cannot replace human contact.

In the corporate sector, BMW plans to implement an AI-orchestrated operating model by 2028, starting with autonomous agents in procurement. Similarly, dm plans to introduce an AI shopping assistant in its app by early 2027 to automate shopping lists and orders. Bosch is also utilizing AI for manufacturing co-intelligence to improve productivity and solve technical issues faster.

On the technical and regulatory front, researchers are highlighting vulnerabilities in AI agents, such as prompt injection risks, and noting that current security patch benchmarks may overestimate the quality of AI-generated fixes. Meanwhile, the EU's Digital Omnibus has shifted the deadlines for high-risk AI system obligations to late 2027 and 2028.
