Casio Moflin AI robot market expansion

Casio’s AI-powered pet robot, Moflin, has expanded its presence from promotional events in Japan to market entry and healthcare testing in Germany.

In September 2026, a collaboration cafe opened in Shibuya, Tokyo, to celebrate the launch of a new ‘Sakura’ color for the robot. The event allowed customers to interact with the device while consuming themed menu items.

By October 2026, Casio introduced the Moflin to the German market. The plush companion, designed to mimic animal behaviors through warmth and vocalizations, is being tested at the Hospital zum Heiligen Geist in Hamburg. Researchers from the Institut Leistung Arbeit Gesundheit (ILAG) have noted that the robots can act as “social catalysts,” potentially helping to combat loneliness in elderly care settings. The product is scheduled for a wider release in Germany at a retail price of 399 euros.

An investigation by ILAG involving 50 units across five nursing homes found that over half of the participating residents showed “serious interest.” The study reported improvements in well-being and social participation, noting the devices helped to activate residents and stimulate conversation. However, experts emphasize that the AI companion cannot replace human contact or real pets. Researchers also noted that the long-term effects on children and the elderly remain unstudied, and some users may view the technology as “inappropriate.”
