Castaños authorities rescue 63 dogs during animal cruelty investigation

Authorities in Castaños, Coahuila, rescued 63 dogs during a search of the Fundación Frichem premises. The operation, prompted by a report regarding a dog named Lía, resulted in one person being detained. The individual faces investigation for crimes against sentient beings as well as preliminary charges for narcotics possession.

Of the rescued animals, 10 were reported in grave condition and required immediate veterinary attention. The remaining dogs were transferred to specialized organizations for care.

In response to the incident, the Association of Veterinary Zootechnicians of the Central Region of Coahuila announced its readiness to provide medical assistance to the animals. The association is offering reduced rates for treatments to help facilitate the rehabilitation of the dogs, many of which suffer from malnutrition or disease. Officials also noted the public health importance of managing these animals to prevent outbreaks of diseases like rickettsiosis.
