Castel Maggiore to rename sports center after Alex Zanardi

The municipality of Castel Maggiore has decided to rename its local sports center on via Lirone in honor of the late Alex Zanardi. Formerly known as ‘Guido Guidi’, the facility will serve as a tribute to the former Formula 1 driver and multi-gold medal Paralympic champion.

Mayor Luca Vignoli stated that Zanardi’s life and sporting achievements serve as an indisputable model of moral strength and resilience for the community, particularly for younger generations. The decision celebrates Zanardi’s determination in the face of significant adversity following his racing accidents.

A dedication ceremony is scheduled for September 12. The event is expected to include Zanardi’s relatives as well as notable figures such as Alberto Tomba and Paralympic athlete Bebe Vio. The day will also feature a local sports Open Day to promote regional athletic associations.
