Tributes to Alex Zanardi

Overview

Following the passing of racing legend and Paralympic champion Alex Zanardi, various organizations have announced tributes to honor his legacy.

In Italy, the municipality of Castel Maggiore decided to rename its local sports center on via Lirone to the Alex Zanardi center. Mayor Luca Vignoli noted that Zanardi’s achievements serve as a “model of moral strength and resilience” for the community. A dedication ceremony is planned for September 12.

In the United States, Chip Ganassi Racing and DHL announced that Alex Palou’s #10 Honda IndyCar will feature an iconic lightning bolt livery during the season finale at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca from September 4–6, 2026. This tribute coincides with the 30th anniversary of Zanardi’s famous “The Pass” maneuver through the Corkscrew during the 1996 season.
