Castellammare di Stabia administration dissolved due to crime ties

The municipal administration of Castellammare di Stabia has been dissolved by decree of the President of the Republic, following a proposal by the Minister of the Interior and deliberation by the Council of Ministers. This marks the second time in two years that the local government has been placed under state control.

An inspection by the Prefecture of Naples revealed deep-seated ties between local political figures and organized crime groups, specifically the Camorra. The report described a “transversal” influence affecting both the majority and the opposition, citing issues such as rigged tenders, inaction regarding illegal occupations, and candidates with direct links to criminal organizations.

Management of the municipality will be handled for 18 months by an extraordinary commission composed of retired prefect Dario Caputo, deputy prefect Mara Moscato, and public security official Maurizio Vallone.
