Castellammare di Stabia council faces mafia links and administrative gaps

A nearly 400‑page report by a commission of inquiry has highlighted serious shortcomings in the administration of Castellammare di Stabia. The investigation examined Vice‑Mayor Giuseppe Di Capua, who held delegations for the baths, public works and personnel, finding his oversight “formal and never productive” and noting gaps in his professional record despite a clean criminal file.

The commission’s findings also led to the dissolution of the municipality for alleged mafia infiltration. It documented connections between council members and the D'Alessandro clan, including President Roberto Elefante’s shareholding with a businessman under precautionary measures, improper requests for credits to the Juve Stabia football club, and family ties of councillors to individuals identified as extortionists. Ex‑councillor Gennaro Oscurato was flagged for possible external mafia association. While no criminal charges were filed, the report paints a picture of pervasive “black holes” and questionable relationships within the local government.
