Prefectural commissioners have opened an investigation into the €2.16 million contract for the nursery school on Via Fratte in Castellammare di Stabia. The probe highlights a rapid change in the judging panel without documentation, the absence of independent oversight, and the award of the contract to a single company. The project, billed as a renovation and energy‑efficiency upgrade intended to open for the 2027/2028 school year, remains an empty shell lacking basic furniture, play equipment, kitchen facilities and health‑safety provisions. Structural barriers such as a steep access staircase further impede use. The irregularities are part of a broader administrative inquiry that led to the dissolution of the municipal council for alleged infiltration by organized crime groups.

Authorities are scrutinising the procurement process for possible criminal influence and will pursue legal action if wrongdoing is confirmed.
