Castellers de Vilafranca mark 100th pillar in Altafulla performance

The Castellers de Vilafranca performed on Saturday, 13 July 2026, at the Plaça del Pou in Altafulla during the Diada de les Cultures. The troupe completed several human towers, including a 9‑person tower (9d8), a 4‑person tower with folre (4d9fa), and a 3‑person tower (3d9f).

The highlight was the loading of the 100th pillar (pilar emmanillat) in the group’s history, a milestone first achieved at this venue. According to local casteller journalist Pep Ribas, the 100 pillars have previously been unloaded at 46 occasions in Vilafranca, 13 in Tarragona, and 8 in Vilanova i la Geltrú, among other Catalan towns. The 100th pillar had previously been completed in three earlier Altafulla performances (1999, 2014, 2016); this latest loading brings the total to one hundred.

The achievement follows a weekend of high‑level casteller activity in the region, with multiple groups competing and achieving notable constructions. The Castellers de Vilafranca plan upcoming performances in Sitges, Mataró and Vilanova i la Geltrú later in the season.
