2026 Catalan castellers season: technical feats and rankings

The 2026 Catalan casteller season has been marked by significant technical progression and historic milestones. Following early successes in Valls and Tarragona, August brought high-level performances across various summer festivals.

During the Firagost festival in Valls, Colla Vella Xiquets de Valls maintained their record of no fallen towers in 2026 by completing a 5d9f, a 4d9sf, and a 7d9f. The Colla Joves successfully performed a 4d9f and a 2d9fm, though they dismantled a 4d9sf attempt for safety. In Llorenç del Penedès, Colla Jove Xiquets de Tarragona delivered a 3d9f and a 4d8a, while Colla Joves and Nens del Vendrell focused on eight-storey structures.

At the Sant Roc festival in Cós del Bou, Colla Castellera Sant Pere i Sant Pau achieved a historic milestone by completing a 4d8a, alongside a 3d8 and a 4d8, moving the group to 13th place in the Concurs de Castells index. Additionally, Colla Jove Xiquets de Tarragona successfully completed a 4d9f, the first time that specific tower has been dismantled at Cós del Bou.

In L'Arboç, the Sant Magí festival served as a major test despite heat exceeding 33 degrees Celsius. Castellers de Vilafranca achieved a ‘gamma extra’ poker by completing the 3d10fm, 5d9f, 4d9fa, and pd8fm. Colla Vella completed their tenth consecutive 4d9sf in that location. Other notable successes included the Jove de Tarragona recovering the 5d9f and completing the 2d9fm, 3d9f, and pd6, while Xiquets de Tarragona performed the 7d8, 4d9f, and 3d8.
