Castellina in Chianti hosts 14th‑15th century art exhibition

A new exhibition titled “Ritorno nel Chianti. Dipinti del XIV e XV secolo” opens at the Museo Archeologico del Chianti in Castellina in Chianti. It showcases fourteenth‑century work by Niccolò di Pietro Gerini and fifteenth‑century panels by Bicci di Lorenzo and Cosimo Rosselli, pieces that have been stored for decades in the Pinacoteca di Siena, the Soprintendenza and the Arcidiocesi.

After five months of restoration by conservator Monica Mancini and scholarly research by art historians Nicoletta Matteuzzi, Lucia Bencistà and Annarubina Cateni, the paintings are displayed for the first time in 25 years. The show, curated by Matteuzzi and museum director Marco Firmati, is supported by private donations through the Art Bonus scheme and runs from 31 July. Local officials, including Mayor Giuseppe Stiaccini, highlight the exhibition’s role in reviving the cultural heritage of the Chianti area and attracting visitors to the region.
