Overview

The Museo Archeologico del Chianti in Castellina in Chianti opened the exhibition “Ritorno nel Chianti. Dipinti del XIV e XV secolo” on 31 July 2026. Curated by Nicoletta Matteuzzi and museum director Marco Firmati, the show presents fourteenth‑ and fifteenth‑century tempera works by Niccolò di Pietro Gerini, Bicci di Lorenzo and Cosimo Rosselli, restored over several months by conservator Monica Mancini with art‑historical research by Matteuzzi, Lucia Bencistà and Annarubina Cateni. The restored Madonna‑and‑Child panels and a 13th‑century Crucifixion returned to their original setting in the Rocca Quattrocentesca after 25 years in storage and will remain on display until 10 January 2027. The exhibition is supported by private donations through the Art Bonus scheme and is promoted by regional officials, including President Eugenio Giani and Mayor Giuseppe Stiaccini, as a means to revive Chianti’s cultural identity.

In parallel, the University of Tuscia’s laboratory completed the restoration of four 15th‑century panels by Cola da Orte, now on view at the Museo d’Arte Sacra in Orte. Meanwhile, Massa opened a major 20th‑century sculpture exhibition featuring Marino Marini, Giacomo Manzù, Pietro Consagra and Arnaldo Pomodoro, and Cannobio on Lake Maggiore presented a Neo‑Pop show of contemporary artists. On 6 August, the Palazzo Pretorio in Colle Val d’Elsa was designated a museum of regional relevance, underscoring Tuscany’s broader effort to preserve and promote its historic art and museum collections.
