Castellina in Chianti Moves to Join Gaiole Renewable Energy Community

The municipal council of Castellina in Chianti voted on 17 July to adopt a directive that will enable the town to join the existing Renewable Energy Community (CER) established in nearby Gaiole in Chianti. Mayor Giuseppe Stiaccini said the move aligns with national and EU targets for decarbonisation and promotes a sustainable development model that involves citizens and local businesses.

The partnership will allow participating households, firms and public entities to share renewable electricity generation, benefit from instant self‑consumption and storage incentives offered by the GSE, and achieve savings estimated between 10 % and 40 %. By joining the already‑operating CER of Gaiole, Castellina avoids the costs of creating a new community while still gaining lower management expenses and the potential to expand renewable production capacity over time.
