Castelo Branco health unit reorganizes primary care and adds nine family doctors

On 1 July, the Unidade Local de Saúde (ULS) of Castelo Branco implemented a restructuring of its city health centres. The dedicated unit for patients without a family doctor at the S. Tiago centre was closed, with all residents now assigned a family doctor and directed to their local centre for guidance. The personalised care unit moved to S. Tiago, while the Cebolais de Cima extension joined the USF Beira Saúde at the S. Miguel centre.

In a related ceremony at Hospital Amato Lusitano, the ULS signed contracts with nine newly‑appointed family physicians. The administration highlighted that the recruitment strengthens primary‑care capacity, improves access, and supports continuous, preventive health services for the district’s population.
