Castilla-La Mancha files 30 objections to Guadiana water plan to protect agricultural concessions

The regional government of Castilla‑La Mancha submitted thirty formal objections to the provisional water‑management schemes proposed by the Confederación Hidrográfica del Guadiana (CHG) for the 2028‑2033 period. Vice President José Manuel Caballero announced the objections at the closing ceremony of the 63rd edition of the FERCAM agricultural fair in Manzanares, stating that the plan threatens existing water concessions that are vital for the profitability of local farms and the supply of regional agro‑food products.

Caballero emphasized that the objections are based on more than 200 contributions from the agricultural and agri‑food sector, and called on other administrations and political parties to submit their own positions. He argued that a balanced approach can reconcile environmental protection with efficient agricultural water use, and criticised the opposition for not presenting written proposals in time.

The government also highlighted its broader support for the sector, mentioning investments and credit lines aimed at modernising machinery and promoting sustainable practices.
