Castilla-La Mancha launches grazing subsidies for fire prevention

The regional government of Castilla-La Mancha has opened a one-month application period for subsidies aimed at using controlled grazing to maintain the Defense Area Network (RAD) against forest fires. The program, which begins this Tuesday, is part of the 2023-2027 Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) Strategic Plan and is co-financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD).

A total of 360,000 euros has been allocated for the 2026 cycle, with funding drawn from the 2027 budget. The subsidies are available to individuals, legal entities, and groups that hold livestock farms within Castilla-La Mancha.

The supported activity involves using livestock to reduce vegetation density in designated areas to mitigate fire risks. This can be achieved through manual guidance by a shepherd or via controlled installations such as electric fences or mobile enclosures. Applications must be submitted through the official electronic headquarters of the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha.
