Castilla-La Mancha opposes new regional financing model

The regional government of Castilla-La Mancha is seeking support from parliamentary groups in the Congress to oppose a new regional financing model proposed by the central government. Led by President Emiliano García-Page, the administration argues that the reform could harm the region's interests and undermine the principle of equality in access to public services.

First Vice President José Luis Martínez Guijarro criticized the proposal, stating it fails to correct financing disparities and may instead aggravate them. He noted that under the new system, citizens in Catalonia would receive approximately 200 euros more per capita than those in Castilla-La Mancha, creating an annual gap of roughly 400 million euros. Guijarro characterized the model as non-progressive, suggesting it favors regions that contribute more, which he claims contradicts constitutional principles regarding tax progressivity.
