Castilla-La Mancha pushes central government to enforce Tajo water rulings at regional environmental awards

On 17 June 2026, Castilla‑La Mancha President Emiliano García‑Page used the gala of the Regional Environmental Awards in Ocaña, Toledo, to demand that Spain's central government implement the Supreme Court rulings on the ecological flows of the Tajo River. He criticised the Ministry for the Ecological Transition, saying, "Ya está tardando el Gobierno de España en aplicarlas," and warned that the region's water supplies for cities such as Toledo and Talavera de la Reina depend on timely compliance.

The ceremony recognised thirteen projects, entities and individuals for sustainability, biodiversity and climate action. Highlights included the Albacete Botanical Garden, praised by deputy José Antonio Gómez as "una magnífica noticia para Albacete," and the Hellín‑based sand‑processing firm Areniscas Rosal for its environmental innovations. García‑Page also noted that Castilla‑La Mancha derives about 87 % of its energy from renewable sources and protects 114 natural spaces, positioning the region as a national model for the ecological transition.
