Castilla-La Mancha rolls out EU‑funded water, energy and rural projects
The regional government of Castilla‑La Mancha announced a series of initiatives funded by European Union resources. A €10.6 million aid package will support the creation of energy communities in municipalities, aiming to reduce bills, foster citizen participation and accelerate the transition to renewable power.
In the water sector, the administration submitted 100 formal objections to the draft hydrological planning for the 2028‑2033 cycle, outlining 37 priority hydraulic investments and proposing measures to balance water use across the Guadiana, Tajo, Júcar and Segura basins. Parallelly, an investment programme led by the PRODESE rural development group will channel more than €1.09 million into infrastructure, heritage and sustainability projects in 15 towns of the Serranía de Cuenca.
Additional public aid of €844,728 (covering about 90 % of costs) has been allocated to modernise irrigation systems for 12 water‑users’ associations in Nerpio, securing the continuity of agricultural activity for roughly 675 families. Collectively, these measures illustrate the region’s strategy to channel EU funds into energy, water management and rural development to boost economic resilience and environmental goals.
