Castilla y León expands social housing programs in Salamanca

The Junta de Castilla y León is expanding its Rehabitare program in the province of Salamanca to combat rural depopulation. Eight new municipalities—Galisancho, Villarmayor, Sieteiglesias, Peñarandilla, Garcihernández, Candelario, Aldeaseca de la Frontera, and Aldeanueva de Figueroa—have joined La Salina in offering low-cost social housing rentals. The initiative involves rehabilitating unused properties, with 91 projects currently underway or planned in the province, representing an investment of nearly 6 million euros.

Simultaneously, the regional government is drafting a new law to establish a permanent regime for public protection housing that receives state or European funding. This legislative change aims to ensure access to the 2026-2030 State Housing Plan and European funds, such as FEDER and European Investment Bank financing. While the Junta expressed disagreement with current national housing policies, it maintains that these legal modifications are necessary to secure available financial resources.
