Castilla y León faces summer bus cuts and taxi shortages affecting thousands

More than 20,000 residents of Salamanca province will be left without regular bus service during the summer months after school‑time routes are withdrawn. PSOE prosecutors in the regional parliament have lodged a motion demanding that the Junta guarantee a minimum level of public transport for over a hundred municipalities, criticizing the effectiveness of the Buscyl subsidy and warning that the lack of service isolates residents from health care, administrative offices and basic supplies.

In the city of Plasencia, the municipal PSOE group has raised repeated complaints about the local taxi service, stating that it is “practically impossible” to obtain a taxi and that calls go unanswered. The party has asked mayor David Dóniga to convene an urgent meeting to discuss coverage deficits, licensing numbers and the operation of the central dispatch system. Taxi operators attribute delays to occasional spikes in demand and have requested improvements such as a sheltered shelter at a busy stop.
