Castilla‑La Mancha President García‑Page Urges Conference of Presidents on New Autonomy Funding

Emiliano García‑Page, president of Castilla‑La Mancha, has asked Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez to convene a Conference of Presidents before any further steps are taken on the government's new model for autonomous‑community financing. García‑Page described the proposal as “the result of independentist pressure” and warned that it threatens equality by creating financial privileges among regions. He stressed that the agreement should be debated “with respect to the autonomies” and that the State General Budget must be approved first so the legitimacy of the financing plan can be assessed. The president said he will not accept a system that “privileges some territories and undermines the principle of equality.” He also criticised the lack of transparency around the deal reached with ERC and called for a “dialogue of truth” with all regional governments. The demand comes after the model was rejected by the ten PP‑led regions and two socialist governments, while the Catalan government supports it.
