Castro reduces crime rates through R$ 4 million security investment

The municipality of Castro has reported a significant decrease in crime rates following investments exceeding R$ 4 million through the ‘Castro Segura’ program. According to Military Police data, between January and July 2026, robberies fell by 18% and threats decreased by 26% compared to the same period in 2025. Homicide rates have also shown a steady decline, dropping from 13 cases in 2023 to only two recorded cases by August 2026.

To bolster these results, the local government recently delivered new equipment to the Municipal Guard, including five Renault Duster vehicles, four Suzuki 350 motorcycles, and a mobile base van, representing an investment of approximately R$ 1.7 million.

Mayor Reinaldo Cardoso stated that the strategy focuses on integrated work between the Municipal Guard, Military Police, and Civil Police. Future plans for the security program include establishing fixed Municipal Guard presences in the Abapã and Socavão regions and conducting a public examination to hire 14 new municipal guards.
