Castrovillari elderly fraud: four suspects detained in Acri

Four individuals were detained in Acri following a fraudulent scheme targeting an elderly resident of Castrovillari. The scam began when a man called the woman, impersonating her grandson, and urgently requested 3,000 euros to settle a purported personal loan.

A man subsequently arrived at the woman's home to collect the funds. Believing she was assisting a family member, the victim handed over approximately 2,500 euros in cash. The deception was uncovered after neighbors noticed the stranger's presence and alerted the victim's actual grandson.

Carabinieri and local police intercepted a vehicle carrying the suspects near the Basilica of Sant’Angelo in Acri. The suspects, reportedly traveling from Sicily, were taken to the station for identification. One individual was found in possession of cash, and investigators are currently working to clarify the roles of those involved.
