Catalan Deputy Isaac Padrós Complains of Police Discrimination in Jonquera
Isaac Padrós, a blind deputy of the Junts party, filed a formal complaint with the Girona Provincial Prosecutor against a National Police officer at the Jonquera police station. The complaint alleges that the officer treated Padrós, his wife and their minor daughter in a hostile, humiliating and discriminatory manner while they were renewing the daughter’s DNI.
According to the filing, the officers forced the family to speak Spanish, denied the fee exemption that families with many children are entitled to despite presenting the required documentation, and physically seized the daughter’s DNI and the deputy’s identification without explanation. The deputy also says a false report was later filed against him, that his request for a Catalan‑language translator was refused, and that he had to call the Mossos d'Esquadra for assistance. The incident took place on 29 July 2026 at the Jonquera station in the Alt Empordà region of Spain.
